A construction worker from Brooklyn was killed in a Manhattan crane accident early Saturday morning. It happened shortly after 3 a.m. at a construction site on Varick Street in SoHo, near the Holland Tunnel.   Investigators say Gregory Echevarria, from Brooklyn, was trying to put a counterweight on the crane when it fell on him. He was pronounced dead.   Two other workers suffered minor injuries, officials say.   Echevarria’s death marks the third fatal accident involving New York City construction workers in just a week.

Police say 51-year-old Nelson Salinas was killed by falling debris as he was working on facade repairs at a Manhattan apartment building Monday. And
23-year-old Erik Mendoza was working on the roof of a 13-story building in Brooklyn when he fell to his death Wednesday.
