A steelworker died yesterday, while using a boom lift on north side of Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.

The man, David Wright 22, was an employee of Steel Fabrications which was working on a new large steel frame warehouse in the Yatala area. According to reports we have received, he was crushed between the platform and an overhead beam and suffered critical chest and abdomen injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.

Original reports suggested that he had fallen from the platform, but subsequent information has stated a crushing incident as the cause, due it seems to driving over uneven ground while close to the overhead beams. Paramedics arrived on site promptly and attempted to revive him for almost a hour before officially declaring him dead.

Workplace Health and Safety sent an investigator to the site to determine how the incident occurred. Working alongside the police.
