A Crawfordsville man died four days after an accident at a Jamestown factory, police confirmed.

The accident happened Monday afternoon at Fukai Toyotetsu, an auto parts producer. Philip Dalton, 51, was operating an overhead crane by remote when the load pinned him against another machine, Jamestown Town Marshal Aaron Clapp said in a news release.

First responders and plant employees freed Dalton and began life-saving efforts before he was taken to the hospital with severe internal injuries, Clapp said. Production was halted in the area as the company worked with officials to gather information, the company said in a statement.

Dalton died Thursday evening at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

“We are deeply affected by this loss and our thoughts and condolences go out to the team member’s family, friends and co-workers,” Leslie Cantu, the company’s vice president of administration, said in the statement.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, the company said. An employee assistance program was made available to grieving co-workers.

The accident is not considered suspicious, police said.
