A 51-year-old man died in an industrial accident early this morning at the Stop & Shop distribution center in Freetown, police said.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office identified the victim as Alphonse Ferent of Stoughton.
As a tractor trailer was pulling away from a loading dock, the victim fell between the truck and loading dock, and a forklift used for unloading material from the trailer fell on top of the man and crushed him, Freetown Police Chief Carlton Abbott said.
Freetown Police and Fire responded to the 911 call, which came in around 12:38 a.m. They performed first aid until an ambulance transported the victim to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was pronounced dead, Abbott said.
Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said no foul play is suspected, and he added that the incident is under investigation by police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
