An overnight crane accident sent the operator to the hospital and shut down the Wal-Mart on Greenwood and SPID for nearly 12 hours.
It happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday night when a crane lifting some air conditioning units onto the roof suddenly tipped over.
The crane didn’t fall onto the building, but the accident prompted an evacuation of the store.
We’re told the crane operator was hurt when he allegedly jumped for safety, but he’s expected to be okay.
Crews spent the night securing the crane and the store reopened around 10:30 a.m.
The crane will remain in the parking lot until the contractor can have it removed.
